SUMO · Tokyo September 2026

Official tickets first. Alternatives second.

Tokyo’s September 2026 Grand Sumo Tournament runs September 13–27 at Ryogoku Kokugikan. General sales opened August 8.

If official tickets are still available

Buy through the official channels first. A guided product can be useful, but you do not need a tour simply to attend the tournament.

If official tickets are gone

Do not treat every “sumo experience” as a replacement for the tournament. You have three different choices:

  1. Look for a legitimate guided tournament product that includes or arranges admission.
  2. Choose morning practice if what you really wanted was close-up training rather than competition.
  3. Choose a sumo show if your priority is explanation, entertainment and convenience.

What not to do

A morning-practice tour is not the same as a Grand Tournament. A show is not the same as a stable. The better question is not “Which is most authentic?” but “Which experience still gives you what you wanted from sumo?”
