September Tokyo sumo tickets are sold out. What now?
If the Grand Tournament itself is what you want, start with the official face-value resale service. A guided tournament package comes next. Morning practice and sumo shows are different experiences, not replacement tickets.

First: use the official face-value resale service
The September 2026 Grand Sumo Tournament runs from September 13 to September 27 at Ryogoku Kokugikan. As of August 23, Ticket Oosumo lists the general sale as sold out.
After a sell-out, Ticket Oosumo tells buyers to use its official face-value resale service. Resale tickets appear when existing ticket holders list eligible tickets. Purchases are first-come, first-served and require a credit card.

Set a resale alert instead of refreshing all day
Ticket Oosumo also offers a free resale alert. Choose the day you want and the site will email you when a resale listing appears. The alert does not hold the ticket for you, so you still need to buy it before someone else does.
Eligible QR tickets can be listed until three days before the match, and some unissued convenience-store tickets can be listed until the day before. That does not guarantee inventory, but it means a sold-out day can still get resale listings later.
If the tournament is non-negotiable
If official resale does not work and you still want the actual Grand Tournament, a guided tournament package can be worth comparing. Look for one that clearly says admission is included.
Before booking, check five things: whether the ticket is already secured, seat type, what happens if the operator cannot get the ticket, your own cancellation terms, and what the guide adds beyond admission.
Do not assume that the words “ticket included” always mean the operator already has your seat in hand.

If you mainly want a good sumo experience
If attending the tournament is no longer essential, you have other options. Morning practice lets you watch wrestlers train. A sumo show gives you a shorter, more predictable introduction with explanation and interaction.
Both can be excellent choices, but they answer a different question. If what you wanted was official competition and the arena atmosphere, they are not substitutes for a tournament ticket.

Ticket Oosumo warns that tickets obtained through prohibited resale may not be accepted for entry. If you are buying after the general sale has sold out, the official resale route is the safest place to start.
